DESCRIPTION: APW - N.Y. Chronograph Watch Co, New York, time only watch with center-seconds, 11-15J, 16S, 5 year gold-filled OF original case with attractive engraving detail, fancy white and yellow enamel dial with gold foil decorations, SW-LS, gilt mvt, s#174627. A good example of this scarce watch, it is believed that at most approximately 1000 examples of this 16 size N.Y. Chronograph Watch Co. model were produced with known examples having serial numbers dispersed through the 174,001 to 175,000 range. This example, like nearly all observed of the 16 size model, has a main plate that was machined to accept chronograph mechanism but is lacking chronograph components having been finished as a time only watch with center-seconds rather than as a chronograph. For further excellent info on this style of watch as well as others by Manhattan Watch Co. and N.Y. Chronograph Watch Co., we recommend Michael C. Harrold's excellent two-part article in the April and June 2010 issues of the NAWCC Bulletin.
CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking somewhat sluggishly, sweep-seconds-hand with choppy motion occasionally stalling and then skipping ahead two or more beats, overhaul recommended, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some small fine scratches, regulator with some oxide, machined to accept a regulator spring but none is present; dial with scattered hls; fine hands, bend to tip of sweep-seconds-hand; case shows light wear, shallow denting to rear, reduced engraving detail, engine turning detail substantially reduced, slivers of wear to brass to raised ridges of case design and some spots of wear to brass to portions of high points of engraved detail; bow pivots freely, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $200 - $400
